there are several members from Canada which might be able to help you.
Also do the same on the For Sales forum /board----->>> and post a wanted...

99.000 km is very low for a tranny to go bust. And if that car is from Japan, that are real 99.000 km, not false/fake ones, low km is quite normal in Japan. I live in Japan, so I know that.

What is the problem of the tranmission? Post that on the E32 board and you get help. Maybe just the valve body needs cleaning.
I repaired several ZF 4HP24 DIY, not too difficult. See pics on my website below.
If the car is from 1989, the 4HP24 has a 7 pic connector, so not difficult to find one used. But I doubt that it needs repair. Usually they last >200.000 km, especially in Japan, where there is a speed limit of 100 kmh even on the Highway, no way to speed etc.
And usually the cars have good maintenance from the dealers. Not many DIYers here, as not enough space for a nice garage like you have.
