Subject: Engine Failure at 7,000 miles?

I have a 2008 X5 3.0 that just hit 7,000 miles. A couple of weeks ago I noticed the MPH gauge acting really weird and jumping around. I took it in to the dealer and they told me it was cause the battery voltage was low cause I don't drive it enough. Fair enough I thought, so I drove it for the last 7 days. The gage is still acting weird. Last night the check engine light went on, and the engine was idling really weird. This morning I started it up and I got a emergency warning that the oil pressure was low and to turn the car off. I did and had it towed to the dealer again. they called me tonight and said the valve's were messed up and had to be replaced.

I don't understand how the valve's could be shot with 7,000 miles on a vehicle. I assume they are now going to rebuild a brand new motor and my motor will never be new again.... do I have any recourse with BMW? I just can't believe this happened, and I took it in last week cause the gauge was doing weird stuff, all engine related.
