but why all the negative comparisons?

Come on! An AMC Eagle? Or worse, the Pontiac Aztek? You might as well be comparing Megan Fox with Roseanne Barr just because they're both women! To that, I also have to admit that BMW did a better job with the X6 than they did with the F01 7-series or the E81 1-series.

Not that I'd buy one, but I find the styling to be interesting and innovative. Looks a lot better than any AMERICAN SUV or crossover I've seen so far.

Perhaps the most controversial move is that BMW has introduced M-versions of the X6. Yes, BMW has introduced their first M-truck!

What's particularly innovative is not just the X6's state of the art styling and engines, the fuel mileage is likely to be better than anything of Detroit's SUV boxes, particularly when you factor in BMW's line of clean diesels.

While both the Suburban/Denali/Escalade, Expedition/Navigator, as well as the Jeep Grand Cherokee are all at curb weights comparable to the X6 (between 5,000 and 6,000 pounds), the X6 is a far superior machine to any that I just listed. Not only beating them at gasoline fuel mileage ratings, but BMW is also going to be offering clean-diesel versions that domestic manufacturers arent' even offering.

Despite the lousy economy, BMW can't ignore that this is what people are still buying this days. I think BMW deserves some credit for designing a truck that doesn't look like a truck.

Definitely not an AMC Eagle or an Aztek.
