Valves could go within 100 miles depending on the material, conditions of use, and setup. I am not a big fan of dealers but I also like warrenties that are honored. If you have problems I would think that BMW would honor their advertising that there is no cost to you for the first 4 years or 50000 miles. Let them fix the motor with whatever parts they need to fix it with. When I had problems they even gave me a free loaner car while they fixed my car.
I ran into a bad batch of exhaust valves for a marine diesel engine and the manufacture did nothing for us I think BMW will stand behind their product if not let us all know. Unfortunatly todays mechanics are trained to hook up electrical devices tha tell them what the problems are This may be a good thing because parts changers cost a bundle of money; but, true troubleshooting has not been lost for good. At least they found a problem and are in the mindset to correct the situation. Speak out and let us all know if they do or don't get it right.
