You folks who didn't make it really missed a great meet. Actually, a series of meets, starting Friday, going through Saturday and ending on Sunday. James Lin (JL) and Michael LaPorta (Lurcher) did a terrific job organizing everything and making everyone feel welcome. The DFW7's are an outstanding group of people.

After a 920-mile journey from Lexington, we arrived on Friday evening to meet Byron Montgomery (koolhouse) and his lovely wife, Lisa, who opened their home for us to stay with them. Barbecue is probably my favorite food, so Byron and Lisa took us to a local place called the Red Barn for dinner. Great barbecue.

Saturday was an early start at 8am for Cars and Coffee at Classic BMW in Plano. It looked like 500+ cars, of all types, were there. BMW's, especially e38's, were well represented. I believe that we had around 20 e38's. There were a about a half dozen really nice E31 8-series cars there, too (a longtime dream...).

After that, it was lunch at a cajun place nearby. We all got to sit at one giant table, which was nice. I got to speak quite a bit with Dave McBee (did you know that he's a professional driving instructor?), Bill James (BJamese38), Lurcher, Joe Pierce, James, Roger (TxDarth), Steve Aune, Dan, Wolf & Jeannie and many more kind folks. It was outstanding to get to see you all again. I can't say enough about the high caliber of people in this group.

After lunch, we went over to Bill's hotel and talked in the lobby until around 3pm, when we drove over to a Starbucks to meet a large turnout of DFW7 members for the drive to the Texas Motor Speedway for the lap event. The cost was a reasonable $30, which got us 3 laps on the 2.5-mile track at highway (or a little better) speeds. It wasn't like Indy, where we were limited to a slow parade of 30mph. Instead, a couple of pace cars watched closely as we drove around at about 80mph. If you allowed a bit of spacing, you could briefly get up to 100mph, which Maru did several times. I was amazed at how large and steep the turns are in person. On television, you just never get a true sense of the scale. After the laps, some of us posed with our cars in the Winner's Circle for a $10 souvenir snapshot, then it was off to Bone Daddy's for dinner.

Special thanks to Dave Brenner (dblunder) for hosting Edwin's marvelous coding sessions at his home on Sunday. You've got a nice garage, there, Dave! Now I've got automatic window rollup with the key remotes, the foglights can be turned on even with highbeams, the annoying gongs for "key in ignition" and "seatbelt" are silent (that is a VERY welcome feature) and, happily, my key remotes are working once again. And, I got to meet Claudio in person for the very first time, who's a very good fellow. He drove up from Austin to join us for Sunday at Dave Brenner's place.

Maru and I had a terrific visit with everyone and we are looking forward to our next trip to Dallas to see you guys again! Thanks for having us!

Maru took about 300 photos. We tried to pare the selection down, so here are the 100 best shots we have:
