Dr. Sam E. Cecil

David Cecil, BimmerBoard founder, posted about the sad news of his Father’s unexpected death because he knew he established a relationship with so many people here. Soon after, I had e-mails asking how people could honor and support the passing of his Father, Dr. Sam E. Cecil.

Let me start by saying I don’t want anyone to think any profit or inappropriate use of funds came from their donations. (If any contributors have questions, please e-mail me privately and I will share any receipts or information you wish to see.) I also do not want to diminish or minimize the pain, loss, or hardship of anyone else here… we have all been through rough times. But David did not ask for anything - he values the friends he has here and wanted to share what is going on in his life.

That being said, and in the interest of full disclosure, over 60 people answered the donation invitation. (Can you rattle off the names of 60 regulars here? Go ahead and try, it’s not that easy!) I think I e-mailed each and every one of you who contributed, hopefully very quickly, to let you know your funds were received. (If you did not get an e-mail, please let me know.) Donations came from members from all over the world, and from a board sponsor (yes, his name rhymes with OEMBimmerParts). Amounts ranged from $5 to a triple digit figure! Because some donations are still coming I do not have a grand total for you, but they exceeded the most popular BimmerBoard board model number. No, not $38 as in E38, but $740.00 as in 740i/iL!

Here is how this developed:

“Hey Tania (my wife and 540i/6 driver), there is an interest to support David, the BimmerBoard founder, during his time of need after the death of his Father.” (Note that my Father died unexpectedly at the age of 63 just three years ago and it really messed me up, and she knows how this can go…)

“Well Mark, if donations of a hundred bucks or more come in, we can cover the rest to make sure there is nice floral display at the funeral and a donation in Dr. Cecil’s name.”

“Thanks, let me get your PayPal info ready and let’s see how it goes.”

Within 5 minutes I had two contributions. (Lawguy, you were the first.. thanks!) Within 24 hours I had enough to cover not just a deluxe standing floral spray at the funeral home for a couple hundred bucks, but enough to also send a gift basket to David’s home.

At David’s request, we will be sending his mother a couple restaurant gift cards and some money to help with expenses. When my Father died, finding food was a chore and cooking was out of the question. Hopefully BimmerBoard can help Mrs. Anne Cecil, and encourage David to get her out of the house to get some dinner when it feels like nothing sound good.

BimmerBoard will also be providing David and his wife, Maru, with some funds to utilize as he sees fit. We are helping with funeral expenses and/or a few meals, even if that means take-out or delivery food.

Finally, because I personally think we should also honor the memory of Dr. Cecil, a donation from the funds will be made in his name. He had a terribly unfortunate heart attack during an illness, so the American Heart Association will hear from BimmerBoard in the name of Dr. Sam Cecil.

***I thank you all who donated.***

I also thank and appreciate those who did not donate – thank you for listening. With whatever you find comfortable, please think about, pray for, or wish well, David and Maru Cecil and David’s Mother Anne, and their close friends and family.

(If you have been off line the last couple days and still wish to contribute, I have "unstuck" the sticky post with our PayPal information. Please consider a donation to BimmerBoard instead, or e-mail me any time and I assure you David will get the funds/message. Thanks!)

Very proud to be a member of this place -
