In my experience, WD40 is great for cleaning parts but not so good as a lubricant. For locks in cold weather, nothing beats gun oil. I use remmington's "rem-oil" but I'd expect other teflon based oils are similar. So for locks, clean with WD40 to get rid of old lube and water that may be freezing in low temps, then apply gun oil.

I'm replacing the cable in my driver's side front door tonight - so thanks for the tips/experience on removing the lock actuator. Getting the old cable out didn't require removal, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the new one in there with everything in place.
